THUNDERSTORMS

I don't know what it is about thunderstorms. Since I was a child, I wanted to be outside feeling the chaotic cool winds chasing the hot humid day away, while I watched in foreboding, magnifcent cloud structures reel and churn. I love the feeling and sounds of those currents of air blowing against my face, rustling my hair and creating in me the buildup that leads me down to the cellar for cover. I am in awe of the bizarre structure of the lightening bolts that surprise and excite, even though I want to cower in their presence. I suppose growing up in Kansas and watching my father stand outside to observe the sky, while the rest of us were forced to abandon him to the basement, created in me a desire to be out there with him, even as the rest of my family hunkered down to wait for it all to end.
Most people cannot understand why stormchasers do what they do.....I can. To be that close to something so stunning and unimaginably powerful without the possiblity of being hurt by it....is a rush.
